New orchestra raises £10,000 for TICR

The Northern Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra raised a staggering £10,000 for the institute of cardiovascular research at its inaugural concert in the Caird Hall on 15 February.

The orchestra, which is made up of professional and amateur musicians including some of the University’s own medical students played to a delighted audience in Dundee fielding accolades from local music critics like: "exhilarating, vivid, exciting, remarkable and a glorious blaze."

Robert McLaren said: "The concert was a resounding success. The quality of performance was outstanding. I would like to thank David Grant the musical director and conductor who formed the orchestra for agreeing to donate the proceeds of their inaugural concert to TICR. I wish them every success for the future."

Over £3,000 was raised from a raffle offering ten weekends for two at Beaufort Castle. And Dundee’s Lord Provost John Letford donated £500 from the Lord Provost’s charity fund towards the institute.
