Students in US to study 9/11

Like millions around the world, geography students Claire Walker and Victoria Cleary watched as the events of September 11 2001 unfolded. But, so affected were the students by the atrocities that they decided to study the aftermath in the US and travelled to the US this summer to document reaction to the tragedy.

Claire and Victora spent their summer at the University of South Florida capturing group and individual responses to 9/11. Claire is writing her final year dissertation on the American sense of identity in the wake of September 11. She explained: "I could have done a study on water quality in Scotland but I wanted to widen the scope of my study."

Victoria put together a documentary which she says is a cathartic experience. "September 11 had an effect on me personally. I love America and I love New York City."

The students captured group and individual responses to the tragedy through interviews and questionnaires with students and staff using discussion sessions and video-taped interviews.
