Excelling champions

Three members of the University's excel sports scholarship squad have achieved success at the FIRA U/19 World Cup in Italy and the British University Games.

Alasdair Dickinson and Chris Cumming played a crucial role in the Scottish Rugby Union U/19 team who overcame England to be placed fifth in the championship - the highest place achieved by a Scottish team ever.

Alasdair and Chris have worked hard to combine the first year of their respective geography and economic degrees with the high levels of training and competition required to establish themselves in the Scottish U/19 squad. Alasdair has battled to overcome a shoulder injury that put his involvement in the championship in doubt.

In the Judo championship at the British University Games medical student Louise Porter was crowned champion in the U/70kg category. This is a remarkable achievement for Louise. Eighteen months ago she suffered a serious knee injury that required reconstructive surgery and signalled the end of her Judo career. Through intensive rehabilitation and training she has re-established herself as a champion.
