Secretary announces retiral University Secretary Bob Seaton has announced his intention to retire, after 28 years in the post. The man who has steered the administration of the University for all but six years of its life as an independent establishment, plans to step down on 30 April 2001. Bob Seaton, who will be 63 on retiral, joined the university in 1973 from Edinburgh University where he had quickly risen through the administrative ranks to become assistant secretary. Born in Clarkston, he attended Glasgow University, Balliol College, Oxford then Edinburgh University acquiring MA and LLB degrees. He has served under five Principals at the University of Dundee. Well known for his breadth and depth of knowledge on university matters, for his wisdom and fairness, and for his reluctance to be in the public eye, the Secretary was characteristically reserved on "going public" about his retiral plans, saying only "No comment at this stage." His decision to retire was due to go before the November Court.
