Training sessions
The latest group of Wider Access Study Centre (WASC) student volunteers are in training later this
week to develop skills to encourage local school children to consider university as an option.
Over the year volunteers will visit over forty secondary schools across Dundee and the surrounding areas
to make sure pupils understand what university is all about. The volunteers act as ambassadors for
higher education and positive role models for school pupils, participating in campus based school visits
including 'Discovering Degrees for Schools'.
A major part of Student Volunteers' work is breaking down the stereotypes surrounding student life,
along with encouraging youngsters to consider university as both a beneficial and realistic option.
University of Dundee undergraduates and postgraduate students can apply to become a Wider Access Student
Volunteer online at www.dundee.ac.uk/learning/wasc/outreach.volunteers.htm
