Scots Guards support TICR
Photo opportunity 2pm, Friday 24 September, Department of Medicine, Ninewells Hospital.
A retired Scots Guard will present over £1,000 to TICR tomorrow which he raised walking Hadrian's Wall
only five weeks after undergoing triple bypass surgery.
Regular soldiers from the Scots Guards will join retired Scots Guardsman, Paddy Welsh, when he makes a
donation to the University of Dundee's Institute of Cardiovascular Research (TICR) after he walked the 82
mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall earlier this year.
Six soldiers from the 1st battalion who are lending their support will don different official army
outfits for the presentation including jungle and desert gear as well as the traditional Scots Guards
uniform. The 1st battalion of the Scots Guard will be proceeding to Iraq in a matter of days.
Paddy will present a cheque of £1,203.25 to TICR chairman Robert McLaren, half of an impressive £2,406.50
he raised on his walk. The other half is going towards the Scots Guards charitable fund which helps
fallen men of the regiment, widows and children. Generous sponsorship came from the Scots Guards to
support Paddy.
The TICR campaign is raising funds for a new Institute for Cardiovascular Research bringing together a
team of specialists in five medical disciplines to enable detection and intervention of heart-related
diseases at an earlier stage.
