'Chemistry at Work'

Carnelley Building, University of Dundee.
Over 400 Standard Grade Chemistry Pupils from Dundee and surrounding areas are taking part in a
'Chemistry at Work' event hosted by the University of Dundee. Pupils have the opportunity to learn about
chemistry at work from assisting police in solving crimes to the treatment process required for safe
drinking water.
The event has been organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry and organisations participating range from
those whose main activity is chemistry or chemical science, to companies that use chemistry in less
obvious ways. Pupils have the opportunity to meet representatives from Shell, Scottish Water, Diageo,
the Society of Chemistry in Industry and the Police Forensic Science Laboratory and take part in hands on
demonstrations to understand how chemistry is used in their respective fields.
Natalie Gooseman, The Royal Society of Chemistry, Tayside local section said, "The pupils gain a valuable
insight into careers within the chemical sciences industry. The range of talks are practical and
informative, stimulating the pupils' interest in chemistry. We look forward to being involved in next
year's Chemistry at Work event."
The event began on Tuesday 7 and finishes on Thursday 9 September 2004 in the Carnelley Building of the
University of Dundee.
