If world records are generally hard to break then this one will prove a toughie. The University of Dundee music society will cast, rehearse and stage a musical with only 23.5 hours preparation on 27 September.
At eight o'clock on Friday 26 September a sealed box containing the scripts and scores for a musical chosen by David Brand from the University's Law Department from a choice of six sent by the Guinness of Records will be opened. Musical Directors Graeme Stevenson from the University of Dundee and Paul Smith from Apex Acoustics will rehearse students, staff, friends and anyone who signs up to be part of the record breaking attempt.
Graeme and Paul are looking to break the world record of 23 hours 55 minutes held by Velvet Jacket Productions in Edinburgh. They are aiming to complete their preparations in 23 hours 30 minutes with the curtain rising in the Gardyne Theatre at 7.30pm on Saturday 27 September.
Graeme is encouraging anyone who is interested to sign up for the musical to become part of a world record and also to experience a day they are never likely to forget. "We are all geared up for a full night and day of hectic fun on 26 and 27 September. We need musicians for the band, chorus singers, soloists, set designers and handy people everyone is welcome to take part. We also need donations of food to sustain the troops, coffee and tea facilities for the night, make up, costumes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once we discover which musical we've got at 8pm on Friday 26thit will be all systems go!"
Tickets go on sale on 1st September at Dundee box office priced £10. The ticket proceeds will be split between Caring for Kids and The Institute for Cardiovascular Research (TICR) at the University of Dundee.
