Photo opportunity 4pm, Tuesday 16 September, Ian Lowe Centre, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
An original exhibition showcasing visual communications for and by people with the communications impairment Aphasia opens tomorrow at the University of Dundee's Medical School in Ninewells Hospital.
Using colour, symbols and images, the participants have created additional forms of communication to written and spoken means by using drawings of the word or phrase they want to express.
Aphasia is a communication impairment which affects all aspects of communication, speaking, reading and writing. The speech and language centre of the brain can be damaged by a head injury, stroke or aneurysm resulting in Aphasia.
By introducing art in the form of a series of printmaking workshops, Christine Kingsley, Project Co-ordinator at Duncan of Jordanstone and her colleagues were able to use the rich vocabulary of visual language to highlight key aspects of Aphasia.
Vice Principal of the University, Professor James Calderhead and Tayside Primary Care Trust Medical Director Dr Bill Mutch will open the exhibition tomorrow at 4pm in the Ian Lowe Centre at Ninewells.
