Freshers' Festival

Photo opportunity, 11am. Tuesday October 1, Lower Foyer Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee.

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design will hold its first ever Freshers' Festival, 'Your Future', as part of the wider University of Dundee Freshers' Week from Monday Sept 30 to Friday October 4.

Jenny Brownrigg, the University of Dundee's recently appointed Curator of Exhibitions said, "The Exhibitions Department is delighted to be staging 'Your Future', as this is the first ever week-long Freshers' Festival in DJCAD. We felt it was important that, while DJCAD students remain part of the wider University community, we introduce them to the potential of the student experience at the art college itself. It also provides us with the perfect opportunity to expose them to our Exhibition spaces and programme at an early stage in their student career and to encourage them to use our facilities and space in the future."

New arrivals about to embark on a course at DJCAD will be invited to engage with a series of thought-provoking exhibitions, gigs, performances, lectures and displays, held within the exhibitions spaces around the city centre campus and designed to offer an arts-orientated introduction to student life.

'Students Bazaar' comprises an eclectic range of stalls to help welcome the new students. Attractions include 'Society Lunches' which will offer international delicacies.

'Student of Life' features a series of performances and installations by recent graduates of DJCAD, including Stacey Matthews and Kevin Alexander Reid, who have been invited back to talk about their work and experiences to new students. Advice on brightening up student residences on a modest budget will be offered by The Sunday Herald's DIY Doctor, aka Jane Cumberlidge of the University's Visual Research Centre.

"Band in Crisis" features a performance by Skill 7 Stamina 12 who will be placing their destiny in their audience's hands.

The wacky 'How ToŠ' exhibition in the Lamb Gallery, Tower Building offers the ultimate selection of answers to life's problems. This eccentric collection of 'How ToŠ ' manuals dating from 1950s to present day, including tips for survival, hobbies and 'teach yourself' subjects, seems to cover all eventualities.

On Tuesday, October 1, a quartet from the University Musical Society will play a mini concert in DJCAD's Lower Gallery.
