Students buy new grand piano
The University of Dundee, with the help of some of their music loving graduates, have just bought a
new grand piano.
The Weber WG175 was purchased with the help of generous donations from the University Music department
(£500), the University (£2,500), the Graduates Council (£500) and the Students' Music Society (£500). The
new piano replaces the Bechstein that was already in the music rooms.
The piano will be used weekly for rehearsals for the society's choirs, orchestra and big band as well as
for other music groups in the University.
The formal inauguration of the piano will be at a short recital on Tuesday 26th October at 5:15pm, which
will feature several of the society's talented pianists including Barbara Flower, Catherine Brown and
Laura Sheerin.
The society has two forthcoming concerts this winter. On the 21st November at 7:30pm in St Paul's
Cathedral, Dundee, the Choir will be performing Duruflé's Requiem, with the Chamber Choir performing
Duruflé's 'Motets' and Haydn's 'Little Organ Mass'. Then on the 5th December also at 7:30pm in St Paul's
Cathedral, Dundee, the Orchestra will perform a Gary Sutherland amalgamation of the Nutcracker and well
known Beatles tunes entitled 'Beatlecracker' and Vaughan William's 'English Folk Song Suite'.
The Big Band will also feature with their renowned repertoire of jazz classics.
Tickets for both concerts are £7/5 and are available from the City Box Office or at the door.
