9 October 2003
Photo opportunity: 5.45pm, Thursday 9 October, Large Lecture Theatre, Medical Sciences Institute (off Old Hawkhill, next to Wellcome Trust Building), with Dr Jim Elliott, Head of Life Sciences Teaching Unit, and students.
The star students of the University of Dundee’s world-famous School of Life Sciences will be congratulated on their hard work and success at the annual prize-giving ceremony today (Thursday 9 October).
Students who excelled in academic session 2002/3 will be rewarded in the ceremony, followed by a reception and buffet.
The event is held to reward exemplary effort and motivate students to reach their full potential.
The University of Dundee School of Life Sciences is renowned for pioneering research in cancer and diabetes - so these students could be the next Nobel Prize winners.
Among the prizes awarded are three given every year in memory of Jonathon Glover, a PhD student at the School who died when ice-climbing in Glen Doll, Angus, in 1982.
A new prize - from local business man Donald Forbes at Dundee Property Solutions - joins the list this year.
The opening address by Dr Jim Elliott, Head of Life Sciences Teaching Unit, will be followed by the presentation of module class medal and special prizes.
Dr Elliott said, "It’s a real pleasure to be part of a ceremony celebrating the achievements of so many excellent students within the School of Life Sciences."
