A University of Dundee lecturer has just won the Rose Mary Cranshaw Prize for her book Byron, Poetics and History.
The Rose Mary Cranshaw Prize is awarded by the British Academy for outstanding published works by women on any subject connected with English Literature.
The University’s Dr Jane Stabler of the Department of English uses new archival research into Byron’s correspondence and reading to trace the complexities of his work.
From his early satires to Don Juan, she argues that Byron’s poetics developed in response to his reception by the English reading public.
The award was established in 1888 and is judged by the council of the British Academy.
