17 October 2001
photo opportunity 12 noon, Friday 19 October, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Nethergate, Dundee.
A one day curator and artists forum addressing issues surrounding curatorial practice and the broader relationship between the artist and the curator will be held in DCA this Friday.
Organised by the School of Television and Imaging and the Exhibitions office at the University of Dundee, leading curators will reveal their thinking on how artists can contextualise and promote their art work, how you can go about becoming a curator and how the forum for art is shifting from the traditional gallery setting. Aspiring artists will also be able to pick up tips on what curators are looking for to exhibit.
A highly regarded and experienced panel will be discussing the issues. The event will be chaired by Mike Stubbs with guest speakers: Vicki Lewis from Baltic, Eddie Berg of FACT, and independent curators Gavin Wade, Caz McIntee, and Smith + Fowle.
Based on the success and feedback from the Curators Forum held in 2000, this year's forum will aim to open and inspire a high level of debate that examines critical contemporary issues surrounding curatorial practice and the broader artist/curator relationship.
The forum is funded by Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee Exhibitions, the Scottish Arts Council and Dundee City Council. Tickets are available on 01382 345352 and cost £30 for waged and £10 for concessions. The forum will run from 10am - 5pm./ENDS
