Newly elected member of Parliament for Dundee East Iain Luke will make his first visit after the Labour Party conference to the University of Dundee on Friday to welcome the new politics students to the City.
Named top politics department in Scotland in a recent league table, the department is hosting the MP and local councillor Neil Glenn who is also a tutor in the department to explain why they became politicians. Students will have the chance to question them and chat informally with them over lunch.
Iain Luke said, "I am delighted to be addressing students at the University of Dundee tomorrow. Growing up in Dundee I was always interested in politics and I developed that interest by studying politics at the University of Dundee. I thoroughly enjoyed my studies and I am certain that many of the things I learned are benefiting me in Parliament just now. I hope that this year's politics students enjoy their time at University as much as I did and that they appreciate the excellent politics department at the University of Dundee. Who knows, perhaps there are future MPs among this year's students."
Alan Dobson, acting head of the politics department: "After the last election's low turnout of young people voting we decided to initiate an active relationship between our politicians and our young people.
