A new post-graduate course for nurses working in the community is being launched today at the University of Dundee. The new MSc Health & Social Care degree has been designed and developed by the University of Dundee's Department of Social Work and School of Nursing & Midwifery.
The aim of the programme is to enable nurses to develop teamwork and partnership, working across professional boundaries. Some students will also be able to use their work on the programme to gain advanced professional accreditation. Public sector employers will be able to use this as an important professional development opportunity for their community based staff.
Dr Phil Lyon of the School of Nursing and Midwifery said: "Our new post graduate programme reflects the kind of joined-up thinking on care called for by the Scottish Executive. The future challenges of providing high quality health and social care in the local community are important to us all. We hope that what we teach on our course will soon be seen out there in practice."
The programme has three core modules but also has an exciting range of electives so that students can find plenty to suit their needs and interests. Modules will look at nursing policy, how public sector agencies work together to deliver services and how projects such as community care can be implemented and managed. Students can progress through to the MSc or step off with a postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Health & Social Care as their circumstances allow.
