University of Dundee Music is staging a clock beating production of the Mikado this weekend.
Starting rehearsals at 7pm tonight, the performers, chorus and orchestra have one night and one day to learn all the songs, lines and stage directions of the famous Gilbert and Sullivan opera.
All performers will be given the script and music on tonight for the first rehearsals then packed off to their beds for a good night's sleep at 12am before practise resumes at 7am tomorrow. The performers will sing dance and recite all day Saturday in preparation for the curtain call at 7.30pm on Saturday night.
Graeme Stevenson, Music Co-ordinator at the University of Dundee said: "The 24 hour Mikado is our most ambitious musical project in the University yet but I think it is a great way to get people involved in music and show them what fun it is to be involved with the music society. We look forward to Saturday evening's production and welcome everyone to come and see if we can actually pull it off in 24 hours."
Musical first years at the University of Dundee will experience a baptism of fire, this being their first involvement with the Music Society.
Tickets are available from Graeme Stevenson, Music Co-ordinator on 01382 348148, or can be purchased on the door./ENDS
