Dundee's Lord Provost John Letford will tomorrow (Tuesday 25 November) be given a tour of the new wing of TICR at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, to view progress on the site.
The University of Dundee's Professor Annie Anderson and Professor Hugh Tunstall-Pedoe, both based in the Department for Medicine, will show Mr Letford around the £1/5 million build, which is now in the second phase and due to finish early 2004.
Professor Anderson said, "It is a pleasure to welcome the Lord Provost here so he can see first-hand the results of the fund-raising activities of so many people in and around Dundee. We really appreciate everyone's support and this centre will make a real difference in preventing and treating cardiovascular conditions.
This facility includes a purpose built research kitchen to combine theoretical aspects of nutrition with practical dimensions-taking account of individual, community and national challenges in changing lifestyle behaviours."
Professor Anderson will use the new facility to continue her research into nutrition, including studying children and adolescents - crucial in improving the health of young people in Scotland. Professor Tunstall-Pedoe, who recently published the world's largest study of heart disease and stroke, will also be based there.
