An anti-gun campaigner from Montenegro will describe the devastating effects of small arms proliferation in a public talk hosted by the University of Dundee.
Kaca Djurickovic will speak about her work on a small arms and light weapons UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), and how the proliferation of arms affects women’s lives in a region that is flooded with guns. The 29-year-old will provide a personal and international perspective on the issue of small arms and women's perception of security in the Balkans.
Currently Kaca is studying law at the University of Montenegro. She also works part-time for the UNDP and campaigns to raise awareness of women's rights.
The annual Student Speakers Tour is a two-week event held each November and organised by the Education and Student Office of Amnesty International (AI).
The tour provides students and young people with the opportunity to have direct contact with international speakers who come from countries around the world. The speakers help to demonstrate the situation in countries that AI campaigns for.
The focus of this tour is the AI campaign for Tough Arms Controls, and the forthcoming campaign on Violence Against Women.
The lecture is free and open to the public. It will take place at 7pm on Wednesday 12 November, T9 Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, University of Dundee, Dundee.
