Twenty-three members of the Sweaty Sloggers hill-walking group have raised over £1000 for the University of Dundee's TICR campaign.
The walkers took part in a sponsored walk in the Angus glens, from Glen Esk to Glen Clova, and raised £1052 in May 2003.
The cash has been used to help purchase a PCR machine which can amplify DNA to allow detailed examination of patients' genes.
Dr Colin Palmer of the University of Dundee's Biomedical Research Centre, said, "This machine will allow us to detect changes in DNA that will then help us to predict and treat heart disease. I'd like to extend my thanks to the Sweaty Sloggers for making such a valuable and substantial donation to the purchase of this equipment."
