PAINTED SPACE

a photo of paintings

The first exhibition of new paintings by two of Duncan of Jordanstone's promising Fine Art students opens to the public today, November 8.

Painted Space features a collection of work examining perceptions of space and environment by fourth year students Sarah Forrest and Isobel Morris, both 21. Isobel, from Tiree, records in her work memories of an island environment, while Sarah, from Dundee, concentrates on the presence and absence of the human figure within a controlled space.

Duncan of Jordanstone's lower foyer gallery is regularly made available to all art students in order to give them experience of staging an exhibition, in preparation for their final year degree show.

Curator of Exhibitions Jenny Brownrigg said, "Having experience of putting on an exhibition is an important aspect of a student's learning because it gives them experience of the practicalities of putting on a show as well as helping to build their confidence by putting their work on public display."

Painted Space opens with a private view this evening at 5pm, to which all are welcome, and runs until November 15, from 9am to 5pm, in the lower foyer gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Entry is free.
