Photo opportunity, 2.45pm, Wednesday, November 27, Tower Building Foyer, University of Dundee.
Ronnie Forbes of the University of Dundee's School of Fine Art will present the University with one of his paintings as a parting gift when he comes to the end of nearly 20 years of teaching tomorrow, November 27.
Having been a popular member of staff at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design since he came from Glasgow School of Art in 1983, Ronnie is celebrated as having initiated the college's flagship postgraduate fine art and design programme. Now known as the Master of Fine Art, the course was unique at its inception and inspired the development of other postgraduate courses in art schools around the country.
Ronnie also held the post of head of Painting during his time at Duncan of Jordanstone, which he describes as a "golden period" in his career. He said, "I have been employed here at the art college and subsequently the University for nearly 20 years and it has been an extremely successful and enjoyable part of my life.
I have been lucky enough to work with the most wonderful members of staff and a buoyant cohort of students, many of which have gone on to achieve international success.
"I hope that by donating one of my paintings I can return the goodwill which has been shown to me throughout my career and which I am sad to be leaving."
Ronnie, who will present his painting to deputy principal Bill Barr tomorrow, now plans to work as a full time artist and launches an anthology of his work called "Riddles and Puzzles" this week. The anthology can be found at www.ronald-forbes.com
