Three scientists at the University of Dundee are named in the UK's top 20. The University of Dundee is the only Scottish base to figure in the table.
The three - all biomedical scientists at the University - are Sir Philip Cohen (6th), Sir David Lane (7th) and Professor Peter Downes (14th).
The latest table, compiled by data research company Evidence, is based on how often scientists' work is referred to by their peers. It identifies several centres where the science stars cluster - University College London, Cambridge, University of Dundee and Oxford.
The three Dundee scientists were congratulated by Principal Sir Alan Langlands who said: "Just last week we heard that this year's Best British Biochemist award has once again come to the University of Dundee - where no less than eight biochemists have now been awarded in this way. This new table highlights the calibre of the very exciting science going on at the University."
Professor Sir Philip Cohen, director of the Wellcome Trust Biocentre, works in the area of protein phosphorylation which has implications for diseases such as diabetes.
Professor Sir David Lane has an international reputation for cancer research.
Professor Peter Downes is well known for his work in the area of cell signalling.
