Scientists from the University of Dundee are among the dozen delegates who will gather on Monday (19/11) to focus on the role of plant compounds in preventing disease.
The morning workshop, which will be hosted by the Scottish Crop Research Institute, will explore the development of a research programme to investigate how certain plant compounds might be used in treating or preventing disease.
Dr Michael Morton, international expert on isoflavone analysis at Cardiff starts the programme with a paper on the properties of "plant hormones" known as phyto-oestrogens. He is followed by University of Dundee researcher Margaret Ritchie who is currently actively pursuing work in this area.
SCRI's Professor Howard Davies will give an overview of current research at the Institute. Leanne West, clinical trials co-ordinator of Novogen, will talk on the drug development programme and five specialists from the Universities of St Andrews and Dundee will also attend./ends
