Maths master class

Local primary school children who have completed this year's maths master classes at the University
of Dundee will be presented with certificates from the Royal Society of Edinburgh tomorrow
(Saturday 21 May).
Pupils from primary schools, Blackness, Northmuir, Glamis, Eastern, St. Joseph's, Ancrum,
Strathmartine, Brackens, Park Place, Monikie, Muirfield, St. Vincent's, Warddykes, Glebelands and
Murroes, have been attending the classes for three weeks throughout May.
The classes tackle hands on problem solving and a diverse range of mathematical topics and
applications from 'rabbits, plants and architecture' through to 'binary numbers and human adding
machines' to 'triangles, the rose and the eleven times table.'
This is the third year, Dr Sandy Anderson, Professor Mark Chaplain and Dr Fordyce Davidson from
the Division of Mathematics have held the popular workshops that give children the chance to learn
more about the beauty and mystery of mathematics.'
