Degree Show 2005
From a documentary on the Black Watch to innovative street furniture that helps encourage
people to stop smoking and also the longest painting to ever come out of Duncan of Jordanstone
College of Art and Design, this year's degree show at the University of Dundee promises to be an
exceptional visual experience.
Over 200 students of fine art, design, television and imaging and architecture will display their
final year projects at the annual degree show, officially opening tomorrow, Friday 20 May. This
year also sees the first graduating class from the Department of Innovative Product Design take
part in the show. The Innovative Product Design course is jointly delivered by the Division of
Mechanical Engineering and the School of Design at DJCAD.
Louise Davidson's documentary on the Black Watch, Paul Monteath's street furniture to help people
stop smoking and Francis Glancy’s 35-foot long painting will be on display at the week long event.
Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design Professor Georgina Follett promises an
exceptional show, "The annual degree show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design is one
of the cultural highlights of the city. Graduates from the Schools of Design, Fine Art and
Television put on an exhibition of their honours degree year, demonstrating the highest possible
standards of creativity.
"The first graduating students from the Innovative Product Design Course, a joint degree between
DJCAD and engineering, will be exhibiting their work as part of the degree show. This is a must
see show, the work on display will make you think, delight you, confuse you and be an amazing
visual experience. We have over 327 individual shows, diversity guaranteed you will see more work
from practising artists and designers than any art gallery is able to display, come and be part of
the future visual culture of Scotland."
