Teaching in the Life Sciences has been given a boost with the release of a University Guide which named Biosciences and Anatomy as two subjects taught at the University of Dundee which have an extremely high national ranking.
Biosciences, which includes biochemistry, sports biomedicine, biological sciences and physiology, was ranked 2nd of the 100 plus Universities in the UK, just behind Cambridge and beating Oxford into third place. Anatomy teaching in Dundee was ranked 6thbest in the UK top in Scotland for both disciplines.
These figures are based on official Higher Education Statistics Agency figures used in the Guardian Education League tables. The league table data included teaching assessment scores, spend per student, student:staff ratio, entry qualification and job prospects.
Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Peter Downes said: "There has never been a better time to be a student of the Life Sciences, or a better place than Dundee at which to study them. Dundee is recognised throughout the world for its strengths in Life Sciences teaching and research and bioscience jobs are growing faster than any other sector of employment in and around the city".
