Patients in Radiology at Ninewells hospital will be treated to a new selection of art from the students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design as the Department of Radiology opens its annual exhibition and awards prizes for the best artworks.
The exhibition features imaginative works from a talented group of fine art students using the latest art practice with a wide range of media of expression in painting, drawing, photography and printmaking.
First prize of £500 will be awarded to Jane Mitchell for 'Branches' and second spot, £300 goes to Kiri Christiansen for her painting as yet untitled. A prize for third place will be given to Bing Wang for "From her eyes".
Dr Roddy Cameron, consultant radiologist at Ninewells says: "The 'Art of Medicine' is an expression indicating that there is more to health care than scientific evaluation and treatment. The exhibition emphasises the human aspect in a technical hospital environment. Paintings can be linked to improving our sense of well-being. There is also an interesting link between the different techniques of imaging in medicine and in art."
The prize winning works will remain on display in the department waiting areas for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff after the exhibition ends. The exhibition will run from until 9 May.
This is the fifth year that the Radiology Department has organised this competition which is open to third and fourth year or postgraduate fine art students at Duncan of Jordanstone College at the University of Dundee.
