Preparations for the royal opening of the Post-Genomics Centre at the University of Dundee next week (Tuesday 28/5) are now in their final stages.
His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh will officially open the £4.3 million research centre as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The centre, housed within the internationally renowned Wellcome Trust Biocentre, will be the research base for over 40 scientists. Its suite of purpose built laboratories will provide the very latest state-of-the-art scientific techniques and technology to help understand the fundamentals of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and malaria.
While the Queen launches Dundee College's new School of Contemporary Dance,Prince Philip will take a brisk tour of the new research facility at the University's Wellcome Trust Biocentre. Principal Sir Alan Langlands, Director of the Wellcome Trust Biocentre Professor Sir Philip Cohen, and Director of the Post Genomics Centre Professor Mike Ferguson will accompany the Duke and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Charles Farquhar on the tour which will be followed by an official opening ceremony and a formal science programme featuring the Adam Neville Lecture to be delivered by Prof Marc Kirscher from Harvard Medical School.
This will be the first time the Duke of Edinburgh has visited the University since 1955 when
