Designer fashion-clad Italians could soon be sporting the creations of students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art at the University of Dundee, thanks to the Hugh Parsons/Orsini awards.
The awards set 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Printed Textiles students the task of creating designs suitable for neckties, some of which will ultimately be chosen for production in Italy by menswear company Orsini.
This is the fourth year of the award which is sponsored by Orsini and organised by their British subsidiary Hugh Parsons, famous for their hand-made silk ties.
The colourful variety of designs submitted for this year's awards were based on the themes of Scottish Heritage, Impressionism, Italy, Art Deco,Architecture, Floral and Futurism.
The over all winner is 3rd-year student Michelle Clarke, who will taking up a 10-day placement at the Orsini factory near Milan.
Georgio Zanone, head of design at Orisini SRL, Maurice Greig, managing director of Hugh Parsons and Steven Higginson, editor of International Textiles magazine, will be at Duncan of Jordanstone on Thursday May 16 for the awards ceremony.
Head of Printed Textiles, Andy Pelc said, "Staff are pleased to continue their association with Orsini and Hugh Parsons and the students have found the awards to be of great academic and creative benefit."
