Jack Dixon, Professor of Biological Chemistry and Chairman at the University of Michigan will deliver his lecture entitled "The interaction between bacterial pathogens and eukaryotic signalling pathways."

Professor Dixon is an entertaining speaker and he promises to give a lecture that will appeal to the breadth of interests in the school from medicinal chemistry to microbiology and cell signalling. He was elected as a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences two years ago and received the Michigan Scientist of the Year Award in 1994 and the University of Michigan's highest honour, the Henry Russel Award, in 1998.

Jack is accompanied on his visit by his son Jesse aged 17, who is a Michigan State Junior Golf Champion. Jack's lecture and visit to Scotland has also included golf rounds at Turnberry, and the Old Course at St. Andrews, where Jesse shot 74 despite a triple bogie at the 17th Road Hole.

The lecture will take place in the MSI large lecture theatre in the school of life sciences at 1pm.
