Final year Graphic Design students at the University of Dundee will receive pertinent advice on entering the commercial world from the co-founder of a leading international design company tomorrow, Tuesday May 21.
With a client list including Nike, Sega and BT and with offices scattered across the globe, James Sommerville from ATTIK is well qualified to advise students on the key issues involved in becoming a success in the creative industries.
It was as graduates working from a humble office in James' gran's attic that he and business partner Simon Needham started out 16 years ago, so they have had first hand experience of the tough environment young graduates face as they begin their careers.
James and a team from ATTIK will visit Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, on Tuesday to offer the 70 students guidance on how to reach their goals.
David Herbert, course director in Graphic Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee said, "ATTIK is one of the leading brand communications companies and this is an excellent initiative on the company's part to create an interface between education and the creative industries. The timing is appropriate, as the final year students are on the threshold of seeking employment in the commercial world."
James Needham said, "Competition for graduates is more intense than ever before so by getting into key design schools like Duncan of Jordanstone, we can help universities make sure students get the practical commercial advice they need to make the next few months a success."
ATTIK will be encouraging the 70 students to sign up for the new MA course in creative imaging which the company has devised with Huddersfield University, as well as showing off images from their "design bible" NOISE.FOUR.
