The University of Dundee today welcomes news of a successful bid worth over £2 million to help to create a state of the art medical research resource centre to assist biomedical scientists in their quest against diseases such as cancer, inflammation and Alzheimer's. Matching funding is now being sought by the university to make the centre a real proposition.
The award comes from the Science Research Investment Fund set up by the Government and the Wellcome Trust to invest in the nation's university science infrastructure.
Leading cancer research scientist Professor Sir David Lane said: "This facility will be of enormous benefit in developing treatments and cures for diseases such as cancer, inflammation and Alzheimer's which cause such suffering. Its presence in Dundee will accelerate the enormous biomedical effort already driving forward here, and underpins the university's position as a world leader in biomedical science."ends
