Duncan of Jordanstone ceramic art student Lynne Turner and community arts worker Charlotte Cadzow made a complementary addition to the Coming to our Senses exhibiton currently running at the McManus Galleries with their exhibit 'Firm Ties'.
Depute arts and heritage convener Councillor Iain Luke and Councillor Ward met service users from the White Top Centre, Kemback Street and Dudhope Adult Resource Centres who worked on the colourful and creative project with Charlotte and Lynne.
The group that came together for the project looked at 'ties' and decided to challenge how we think about them and what they say about the wearer, how and what ties communicate through our senses.
An exicting range of materials have been used in the creation of these ties, from clay, paper and thick felt, and adorned with a multitude of colours and textures. They are tangible objects, which have been twisted or altered, hence changing our perceptions of them. The aim was to turn the ordinary visual concept of the tie on its head and create ties that are tactile, delicate, cumbersome, large and hopefully humorous.
