Students in the Applied Computing department at the University of Dundee will be demonstrating their new innovations including an automatic teacher on Wednesday 2 May in the Jam Factory on campus. The projects are the culmination of their four years of study.
An automated teaching facility has been developed by Nicoll Hunt from Forfar. She has designed software which can create practical IT tests that get students to perform a variety of word processing tasks using Microsoft Word. The software delivers the test electronically over the network, evaluates and marks the performance of the student's actions and offers constructive criticism for any errors made.
Sarah Hibbert, from Northern Ireland has invented a 24 hour prompting system for people with memory problems and Nial Murdoch has designed a multimedia reminiscence scrapbook and quiz for people with dementia.
Gesture recognition software allows the recording and recognition of new gestures. Supervised by Dr Stephen McKenna, this project spins out from another device to recognise gestures made by motor-impaired users. Adrian Cunningham, who is also from Northern Ireland conducted the research for this project.
Schools or prospective students interested in viewing the projects are invited to a preview on Tuesday 1 May 2pm-4pm.ENDS
