'Sandy Brae Community Project' exhibition

Photo opportunity at opening, 5.00pm, Fri 25th March, Bradshaw Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

An exhibition featuring the work of pupils from the Sandy Brae Project', a centre for alternative education in Kennoway, Fife opens in the Bradshaw Art Space at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) on Friday 25th March.

The exhibition contains large spray-art graffiti murals, photography and three video works including a ten-minute short film following the group's visit to East Fife v Dunfermline game in the Scottish Cup entitled 'Eastie Beastie's'.

The Sandy Brae Project caters for young people who have been excluded from mainstream education and has been running for over 10 years. John Beaver, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art is the current art instructor. He is also completing a part-time MSC in Electronic Imaging at DJCAD.

John is hopeful the show will be a two-way learning experience. He said, "The free nature of the work means that the exhibition should be both extremely interesting for the art students and an excellent focus for the pupils at Sandy Brae.

"The young people aged from 14-16 years old, all have difficult backgrounds, being excluded from mainstream education. It will be an interesting event for the pupils to be included in mainstream art when they are excluded from so many other activities."

Exhibition Curator Jenny Brownrigg spoke enthusiastically of the show. "We haven't had an exhibition of this nature before so feel it will show the diversity of art in a community situation."

The exhibition runs until 22 April 2005 at the Bradshaw Art Space, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, 13 Perth Road, Dundee.

Opening hours are Mon-Fri-: 9.30am - 5.30pm, Sat 9.30 - 4.30pm.
