Sixty S2 school pupils and their teachers from Dundee and the surrounding areas will visit the
University of Dundee tomorrow for a mock day of undergraduate study as part of the University's
'Discovering Degrees for school pupils 2005' programme.
The pupils will follow a mock undergraduate timetable for a day which involves interactive
workshops in the School of Life Sciences and the Department of Architecture. They will also meet
university students, take part in subject tasters, a campus tour and work with pupils from other
schools.
Discovering Degrees is a free, tailor-made course providing an insight into university life,
organised by the University's Wider Access Study Centre. The course promotes higher education as a
realistic and beneficial goal, raises pupils' aspirations, while emphasising the rewards of
undergraduate study.
Katy Smith from the Wider Access Study centre commented, "The Discovering Degrees for school pupils
programme continues to be a huge success. With support from the School of Life Sciences,
Department of Architecture and the students' union, pupils have been able to gain a real insight to
university life."
Schools taking part tomorrow are Baldragon Academy (Dundee) and Viewforth High School (Kirkcaldy,
Fife.
