Donation for cancer research
Photo opportunity: 1.00pm, Thursday 3 March, Seminar Room L6214, Level 6, Corridor M,
University of Dundee Medical School, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
The family of Jim Higgins, a lab technician at the University of Dundee's medical school who died
this time last year will make a donation of £3710 that is funding cancer research equipment for the
Department of Surgery and Molecular Oncology where Jim worked.
Jim's family raised the money over the last year through a number of events including collections
and a sponsored run. The donation has been used to purchase equipment including a liquid nitrogen
storage unit that provides long-term storage for cells so that they can be used for cancer research
purposes. A micro-plate reader which is crucial in the cancer research work carried out by the
team has also been funded by the donation.
The donation has been widely welcomed by all of the staff Jim worked with. Jim was a valued member
of the Surgery and Molecular Oncology team and he not only enjoyed his work but he believed
strongly in the cancer research work being carried out.
