2005 Blues and Colours winners

University of Dundee Principal, Sir Alan Langlands will present awards to over 50 of the University's top sporting achievers at the 2005 Blues and Colours awards on Thursday 17th March.

Sportsman of the year goes to 19 year old Andrew Clark from the Fencing Club. Currently ranked fourth in Scotland, Andrew was selected for the Great Britain senior squad for the 2004 Fencing Grand Prix in Bonn. Andrew is currently the Under 20’s Scottish Champion and is hoping to be selected for the Scottish Commonwealth Games Fencing Squad. Originally from Linlithgow, Andrew is in the second year of his biology degree.

The sportswoman of the year award goes to 21 year old Mairi Crawford of the Ski and Snowboard Club. Mairi, from Oban was crowned British University Ski Race Champion and picked up first place in the British Ski Championships in Meribel, France in 2004. Representing Great Britain at the 2004 World University Winter Games she finished 13th out of a total 150 competitors. Mairi, a second year medical student is currently competing in the 2005 British University Championships in France.

Second year medical student, Morag MacLarty has been awarded the Stewart Campbell Trophy that goes to a student who has demonstrated sporting excellence outwith a university club. Morag has been identified as one of the UK’s most talented middle distance runners. She won gold in the 1500m race at the 2004 Youth Commonwealth Games in Australia and received an invite to attend the Kelly Holmes talent camp in South Africa.

The Club of the Year and Most Progressive Club awards will be announced at the Blues & Colours ball, taking place at the Invercarse Hotel on Friday 18 March.
