The newly appointed Solicitor General for Scotland, Elish Angiolini will visit the University of Dundee tomorrow to address law students and the Dundee branch of the Scottish Association for the Study of Delinquency.

Ms Angiolini will speak on issues of criminal justice with a discussion on young people in the criminal justice system and will take questions on the recent report on the Crown Office. Honours students in criminal law and criminal justice administration hope to pick up some special insights from the newly installed Solicitor General.

Elish Angiolini made a big step forward for women in the law when she was appointed in December - the first solicitor and former procurator fiscal to be Solicitor General.

Elish Angiolini was installed as Solicitor General for Scotland in December 2001. Following her apprenticeship in law, she spent eight years as a Depute Procurator Fiscal based at Airdrie in Lanarkshire, before a secondment to Crown Office to work in the Lord Advocate's Secretariat in Edinburgh. During that time, she developed a particular interest in the prosecution of cases involving child witnesses and child offenders.

Ms Angiolini went on to work in the Crown Office before taking positions as Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow and then in Grampian Highland and Islands.

The lecture will take place in the conference suite in the Tower Building, and will be chaired by Sheriff Frank Crowe, a University of Dundee graduate./ENDS
