Prize winning harpsichordist, Penelope Cave will be giving a complete performance of one of Johann Sebastian Bach's greatest works, the Goldberg Variations in the Chaplaincy centre at the University of Dundee on 8 March. Ms Cave will present the work in sections with readings, formal pointers and anecdotes to put this work into context.
Penelope Cave is a prize-winning harpsichordist who has given solo recitals in the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and many festivals in Britain and abroad. She is no stranger to Scottish audiences and has given concerts for music clubs and festivals in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries and Argyll.
She has recorded for Hyperion Records with the Camerata of London, Naxos with the Feinstein Ensemble and given solo broadcasts for Belgian Radio, Classic FM and BBC Radio 3. Ms. Cave collaborated with the gospel singer,Garth Hewitt in settings of the metaphysical poets for the Eagle label and most recently, she has recorded a solo disc entitled Lisbon to Madrid featuring Scarlatti which was highly recommended by the BBC Music Magazine (Jan. 2001) who awarded 5 starts for both sound and performance.
Penelope Cave has taught the Morley College Harpsichord Class in London for the last 14 years and regularly tutors courses, masterclasses and workshops for adults and children. She is married to the instrument maker Michael Heale.
The concert will take place in the Chaplaincy Centre, Cross Row, Dundee at 7.30pm on Thursday 8 March. Tickets are available from the central booking office, 6 City Square or on the door priced £6, £4 concessions, £2 students, unemployed. ENDS
