The University of Dundee has appointed Dr David Duncan, Assistant Chief Executive of Learning and Teaching Scotland to the post of Secretary of the University. He will succeed Bob Seaton who has held the post for twenty eight years.
David Duncan was a key player in the establishment of Learning and Teaching Scotland. He managed the merger of its two predecessors, the Scottish Consultative Council on the Curriculum and the Scottish Council for Educational Technology. He is an expert on curriculum development and has advised many UK and overseas institutions including the Scottish Funding Councils, Teacher Education Institutes and UNICEF on education policy. A historian by background he has published widely and maintained teaching links at the University of St Andrews.

Born in Lanarkshire David Duncan attended Stewart's Melville College in Edinburgh before taking his degree in history from Aberdeen University. He continued his studies in Canada at Queen's University securing his PhD and spent two years lecturing history in the Universities of Witwatersrand and Natal, South Africa. Dr Duncan (36) and his wife Fiona have two young children and live outside St Andrews.
