Wimberley Winner 2005
Illustration student, Stuart Fallon, who will graduate with a first-class-degree from the
University of Dundee this Thursday (23 June), has won the Wimberley Award for the extraordinary
contribution he has made to the University.
Twenty-two-year-old Stuart was nominated for the award after the integral part he played in
ensuring a smooth change over for students when his course transferred from the School of Design
to the School of Television and Imaging. Stuart was one of the first students involved in the
transition and took a lead by acting as a link between the student body and staff to make sure the
illustration course continued to go from strength to strength.
In his third year, Stuart was nominated class representative by his fellow students and played an
active part in the undergraduate course reviews. After scoring the highest mark recorded for
theory and practice of his course he was awarded the School of Television and Imaging Research and
Practice Award in his fourth year. In the same year, and with the highest dissertation mark
Stuart also won the Waterstones Book Prize.
Stuart, who plans to spend the summer in Dundee, explained his plans for the future, "I am
delighted to have won the Wimberley Award. Ultimately I hope to embark on a career with a gallery
but also have plans to pursue a Masters degree."
The University of Dundee's Wimberley Award is presented annually to the student who has made the
most distinguished contribution to University life.
