By popular demand - A return passage to India!
Following huge public interest in a recent exhibition exploring Dundee's links with India, the
University of Dundee is hosting a one-day event to bring together people who have connections with
the sub-continent.
The exhibition in March drew people from all over Scotland and there has been considerable demand
to put it on show again. Many of the people who came to see the original exhibition had lived and
worked in India in the jute industry. Some visitors renewed old friendships and others were able to
point out the houses where they had lived as children!
Now Archive Services at the University are holding a one-day event to bring together those who have
connections with India. The exhibition will once again be on display - for one day only - and
Professor Chris Whatley will repeat his lecture on the subject of Dundee's textile connection with
India.
This event will provide an opportunity for discussion on the Dundee/Indian experience, which, with
participants' permission, will be recorded to launch a Dundee & India oral history archive.
The exhibition consists of items from the University's extensive jute and linen collections which
have been consulted by historians throughout the world.
The event will be held on the 7th of June, from 4 -7 pm in the Baxter Conference Suite, 1st
Floor, Tower Building, Nethergate, Dundee. Refreshments will be available during the event. The
lecture will take place at 6pm. All welcome.
