Germaine Greer to deliver discovery lecture

Professor Germaine Greer, feminist icon and respected writer and academic, will explore one of her great passions as she presents the University of Dundee 2005 Discovery Lecture later this month.

Professor Greer's lecture, which she will give at the University on June 25th, is titled "Regeneration, Rehabilitation or Restoration? The Challenging Rainforest". Professor Greer has a strong interest in the rainforest of her home country, Australia, and has a deep knowledge of the issues facing it and similar landscapes around the world.

Germaine Greer was born in Melbourne and educated in Australia and at Cambridge University. Her first book, The Female Eunuch (1969), took the world by storm and remains one of the most influential texts of the feminist movement. Professor Greer has had a distinguished academic career in Britain and the USA. She makes regular appearances in print and other media as a broadcaster, journalist, columnist and reviewer. Since 1988 she has been Director (and financier) of Stump Cross Books, a publishing house specialising in lesser-known works by early women writers.

The Discovery Lecture is hosted by the Graduates' Council. It will take place in the MSI Lecture Theatre at the Wellcome Trust Biocentre, Universty of Dundee, on Saturday June 25 at 3 pm.

There are a limited number of free tickets available to the public. These must be reserved through the Alumni Relations office at the University by June 17th. The Alumni Relations office can be contacted by telephone on 01382 344822 or by e-mail at alumni@dundee.ac.uk
