Garden Lectures
The University of Dundee Botanic Garden will this month host two evening Garden Lectures.
The first lecture takes place on Tuesday June 21st, when Dr Beth Lord from the University's
Department of Philosophy will talk about "Gardens In Philosophy". Beth's lecture will focus on how
early modern philosophy uses the direct experience of nature in the garden as a way of gaining
understanding of both the world and the self.
The second lecture follows a week later, on Tuesday June 28, when Caroline Brown from the
University Archive Services Department discusses "What the University Archives tell us about
Landscape and Gardens". Caroline's talk will be illustrated with items from the extensive Archive,
including everything from plans for formal gardens to how land around the campus was planted with
vegetables throughout the Second World War.
Both lectures run from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm and will be held within a marquee at the Botanic Garden
on Riverside Drive. Around 60 tickets are available for each event, priced £2, and these are
available from the Botanic Garden office.
