TICR beats off heart disease

Photo opportunity 3.30pm, Tuesday 25 June, City Chambers, Dundee.

Tomorrow will see the launch of a new body of information on heart disease and how people can help The Institute of Cardiovascular Research at the University of Dundee.

Ann Gloag of Stagecoach who is Vice Chairman of TICR will present a new information packed leaflet to Dundee's Lord Provost John Letford at the City Chambers tomorrow explaining how TICR plans to combat heart disease in Scotland. She says; "Scotland is top of the European league in heart disease. Together we can change that by supporting the TICR appeal."

Lord Provost John Letford said, "This is a marvellous appeal which I am sure will be warmly welcomed by all Dundonians.

Dundee is fast building itself a reputation as international centre of medical excellence, and TICR is yet another addition to the pioneering research carried out in the City of Discovery."

The leaflet contains pictures of the medical staff involved in TICR and a listing of all the equipment that they need for the Institute. Each piece of equipment is listed with a price so donors can select the equipment that they would like to fund.

Among supporters of TICR is Lorraine Kelly. "TICR can and will make a difference and I am sure the people of Tayside will rally to support it."

£3.5 million is needed to build the Institute at the University of Dundee. It will bring together under one roof all the skills needed to research better prevention and treatment. Cardiology, stroke medicine, pharmacology, vascular surgery, epidemiology and nutrition will all play a part in TICR.
