Edinburgh-based IT company DCA Data Solutions has awarded a special prize to a Dundee student artist. Patricia Rorie, 23, from Dundee, picked up the £500 award for coming top in the discipline of painting in the Fine Art course at Duncan of College of Art & Design, University of Dundee.
This is the third year in a row that the company has sponsored the prize and Patricia's work was chosen due to its atmospheric nature and the way she created mature paintings from staged photographs of herself using costumes and make-up to mask her identity.
Denny Collie, managing director of DCA Data Solutions said, "It's important that people within the business community show support to talented artistsin Scotland today. I am delighted to sponsor this award in Dundee and also thoroughly enjoyed attending the Degree Show, which showcases some excellent pieces this year."
Past winners of the DCA Data Solutions Award, Andrew Dodds (2001) and Claire Ramsay (2000), are both now successful artists and exhibit widely.
Ronnie Forbes, course director of Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone said, "DCA's sponsorship of this award over the years has been a vital source of support for the college. These artists are the stars of the future and it's brilliant that they are getting the recognition they deserve."
