More than three decades after interviewing her for a post as a secretary at the University of Dundee, vice-principal Professor David Swinfen will wish Jean Humphries a fond farewell when she retires on Wednesday June 19.
Jean will be calling it a day after 31 years as secretary in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, where she now occupies the faculty's most senior secretarial post.
It was in 1961 that Jean turned up to be interviewed by Professor Swinfen as he sought a secretary for what was then the brand new American Studies course.
Professor Swinfen, who will deliver a farewell speech at Jean's retirement party on Wednesday said, "It does make me feel slightly old to be saying goodbye to Jean after interviewing her more than 30 years ago. However, I sincerely hope she enjoys her retirement. It is really the end of an era and she will be sorely missed by all who worked with her at the University."
