Press Release by: Breast Cancer Research (Scotland)
Breast Cancer Research Scotland is pleased to announce the delivery of a unique new scanner to Ninewells Hospital, University of Dundee to aid the fight against Breast Cancer. The BCRS website is at www.bcrs.org.uk.
The Affymetrix Gene Array Scanner which has cost a quarter of a million pounds has been purchased entirely through voluntary donations made possible by the supporters of Breast Cancer Research Scotland.
This technology gives Ninewells the ability to study and monitor many, many more genes than previously possible.
"We will be using it to examine many different aspects of breast cancer biology, not least of all changes in gene expression in breast cancers undergoing treatment".
Breast Cancer Research Scotland was founded in May 1996 and is run by voluntary trustees. The trustees were all close to someone who had suffered from breast cancer and decided that they wanted to do something worthwhile to alleviate future suffering. The primary objective of BCRS is to promote and carry out research into the causes, prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
